About this material group

Understanding rubber raw materials: the basis for the right choice.

Rubber raw materials include elastomers and formulation components used to manufacture flexible products with elastic recovery, resilience and resistance to mechanical or environmental stress.

A rubber formulation typically combines one or more elastomers with reinforcing fillers, process oils, curing agents, accelerators, antioxidants and other functional components. Final properties depend on the elastomer chemistry, the formulation, mixing conditions and the cure system.

Common materials and systems

Types of rubber raw materials

Review a grade for your needs →
1

Natural rubber (NR)

High elasticity, resilience and tensile strength in suitable formulations.

2

Styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR)

Widely used in tires and general rubber products.

3

Nitrile rubber (NBR)

Good resistance to oils and fuels.

4

Ethylene–propylene–diene rubber (EPDM)

Good weather, ozone and heat resistance in suitable grades.

5

Butyl rubber (IIR)

Known for low gas permeability.

6

Silicone rubber

Suited to applications requiring flexibility over a wide temperature range.

7

Carbon black and silica

Common reinforcing fillers.

8

Sulfur, accelerators and antioxidants

For suitable vulcanization and protection systems.
